Annual Michigan Football Bust - Scholarships and Awards
GLENN E. ‘BO’ SCHEMBECHLER MVP AWARD
Eagerly awaited at the end of each season is the team election
of its “Most Valuable Player”.
From 1960 through 1994, the MVP award was called the “Louis
B. Hyde Memorial Award,” named in memory of Louis B. Hyde, a
past President of the U of M Club of Greater Detroit.
In 1995, the MVP award was renamed the “Glenn E. ‘Bo’
Schembechler MVP Award,” in recognition of the winningest
coach in “M” Football history.

DR. ARTHUR D. ROBINSON SCHOLARSHIP AWARD (ACADEMICS)
The death of Dr. Arthur D. Robinson in 1966 stirred his many
friends to contribute to a fund which annually rewards the leading
senior-scholar on the University of Michigan’s football team.
Dr. Robinson served the U of M Club of Greater Detroit and his
beloved University in just about every capacity imaginable. He was
especially interested in The Club’s scholarship program.

HUGH H. RADER, JR. MEMORIAL AWARD (LINEMAN)
The award was established in 1982 to perpetuate the fond
memory of dedicated alumnus Hugh Rader. It is awarded to the
“Best Lineman” as selected each year by his coaches.
Hugh was a past president of “The Club”, a past member of
the U-M Board in Control of Intercollegiate Athletics, a past
Director of the Alumni Association, a Trustee of our Scholarship
Fund, and member of the vital Transportation Committee. He was
honored in 1979 when he was selected as one of Michigan’s
“Greatest Fans” by the Football Centennial Committee. His
consecutive home and away streak of 350 ended in 1980 when he
missed the OSU game in Columbus. Hugh also received the rare
distinction of being named an Honorary “M” Club member.

ROBERT P. UFER BEQUEST (SPIRIT)
This award is presented on behalf of Bob Ufer, the Voice of
“Meechigan” football for 37 years. In a career that spanned five
decades, Bob broadcast 362 straight games.
During his college career, Bob set eight Michigan track records,
including a world record quarter-mile. Bob was also famous for his
annual OSU-Michigan pep rallies at the Mud Bowl and was the
keynote speaker for President Ford’s presidential kickoff rally in
1976.
In fond memory of Bob, this scholarship is awarded to the senior
football player who demonstrates the most enthusiasm and love for
the University of Michigan.

ROGER ZATKOFF AWARD (LINEBACKER)
Roger Zatkoff was a three-year letter winner for Michigan,
playing in 1950-52. He was a linebacker for the Wolverines’ Big Ten
& Rose Bowl Champions in 1950. Roger attended the University as
a recipient of one of our Clubs scholarships.
He was President of our Club in 1964, and has served on the
Scholarship, Transportation, & many other Club committees. He
also served as a member of the U-M Board in Control of
Intercollegiate Athletics & U of M National Alumni Association. He
played in the East-West Shrine Game, College All-Star Game, and
played professionally with the Green Bay Packers and Detroit
Lions, having the opportunity to play in three All-Pro Games and
the 1957 Lions Championship Season. Roger, his wife Elaine, and
family members are Life Members of the Victors Club.

HATCH-FALK AWARD
The award has been given each year for 40 years and is a full
tuition grant to the current Senior Manager. The Award is given
in honor of the late Henry Hatch, legendary Equipment Manager
in the early years of Michigan Athletics, and Jon Falk, current
Equipment Manager.
For 27 years Jon Falk has consistently been a great motivator
for all Michigan players. By his words and actions, Jon has
proven to be a tremendous motivator for players of all levels and
provides inspiration for all individuals associated with the
program day by day.
