Congressman Joe Schwarz earned his B.A. in History from the University of Michigan in 1959 and his M.D. from Wayne State University in 1964. He served in Southeast Asia with the U.S. Navy and with the C.I.A. from 1965 through 1970. He completed his residency training in otolaryngology at Harvard in 1974. Dr. Schwarz has served as Mayor of Battle Creek, in the Michigan State Senate, and in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is the Chairman of the Board of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan. His daughter, Brennan, holds two U-M degrees. Dr. Schwarz lives and practices medicine in his hometown of Battle Creek.
