Ashley Anderson Detroit Renaissance High School Frederick C Matthaei Scholarship 2007/2008
Ashley Anderson, another recipient of the 2007 Frederick C. Matthei Scholarship, is a graduate of Detroit Renaissance High School. Ashley’s remarkable accomplishments inside and outside the classroom made her the subject of an article in the June 17, 2007 Detroit Free Press. Despite battling lupus and an autoimmune disorder that prevents blood from clotting, Ashley graduated from Renaissance with a 3.9 grade point average, winning numerous awards and accolades. She has been accepted into the University of Michigan’s honors program and plans to pursue a liberal arts major.
Michael Billau Milan High School Elaine and Roger Zatkoff Scholarship 2007/2008
Michael Billau is the other recipient of this year’s Elaine and Roger Zatkoff Scholarship. Michael compiled a sterling record at Milan High School, where he excelled as a student-athlete. Michael was a two year captain of his varsity soccer team. He also graduated second in his class taking several AP classes. Michael also served as Vice President of Student Council, participated in the Marching Band and Jazz Band, and was a member of the National Honor Society. In the community, Michael was a youth soccer coach and participated in church youth groups. He will be an outstanding addition to the University of Michigan and we look forward to his future accomplishments.
David Cardelli Ferndale High School Harold duCharme Scholarship 2007/2008
David Cardelli has been awarded with the Harold DuCharme Scholarship. David attended Ferndale High School, where he played sports, participated in the marching band and performed at the highest level in the classroom. David was captain of the Varsity Tennis team and played Varsity Soccer. Also, David demonstrated his fine art skills participating in theater, and the marching and jazz bands. In addition, he was captain of the Robotics team. David’s participation in the National Honor Society, his church youth group, as a member of Sierra Club, work to raise money for charities and attendance at Bioneers Conferences, were amongst his many club and volunteer involvements.
Liting Chen Novi High School James H. LoPrete Scholarship 2007/2008
Liting Chen is the 2007 recipient of the James H. LoPrete Scholarship. Liting attended Novi High School where she graduated with high honors. She participated in Model United Nations, Teen Court, Science Club, Student Congress, FIRST Robotics, and the National Honor Society. Her community involvement is also noteworthy, as she volunteered at Botsford General Hospital, Novi Parks & Recreation and participated in tutoring and teaching aide programs. Liting was a National Merit Semifinalist and recognized by the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press as Student of the Week. Liting Chang truly embodies the qualities recognized by the James H. LoPrete Scholarship.

Zhe Guan Winston Churchill High School David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship 2007/2008
Zhe Guan is the recipient of the other David J. Hallisey Memorial Scholarship. He is a graduate of Winston Churchill High School in Livonia. Zhe, a talented musician who plays the piano, flute and tuba, and participated in the marching band, jazz band, brass ensemble and flute ensemble. Zhe is an exceptional student who compiled an outstanding academic record in high school. In addition, he participated in Quiz Bowl, Science Olympiad, Detroit’s Science and Engineering Fair, Chinese Club and Computer Club. Moreover, Zhe has served the community as a volunteer at the following: (i) Livonia Public Schools Early Literacy Program; (ii) Westland Public Library; and (iii) Churchill High School Band Department. Zhe plans a career I the field of scientific research.
Chris Joseph Fallston High, MD. James Hunt Scholarship 2007/2008
Chris graduated from Fallston High in Maryland and received his Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training in 2005 from Towson University.He spent a year @ the University of Florida as an Intern Athletic trainer working with football and track. He is currently working towards his Master's degree in Kinesiology.

Caitlyn Kochanski is one of two recipients of the 2007 Elaine and Roger Zatkoff Scholarship. Caitlyn graduated with high honors taking several AP classes. She participated in the National Honor Society, served as Student Government Secretary, served on event planning committees, tutored students, and acted as a peer mediator. Amongst the awards and honors she received in high school, Caitlyn won the Rising Star Volunteer Award and the Scholar Athlete Award. Caitlyn’s desire to help others coupled with her enjoyment of science motivates her to pursue a career in nursing. Undoubtedly, we are pleased to be amongst those who applaud and recognize Caitlyn’s many accomplishments.
Matthew Lewis DeLaSalle Collegiate High Falk/Hatch Scholarship 2007/2008
Matthew attended DeLaSalle Collegiate High School in Warren, Michigan where he was a three sport Captain and a four year Honor Student while involved with various other extracurricular events inclunding Special Olympics,Student Council,and Eucharistic ministry.He is currently enrolled in the Division of Kinesiology at UM with hopes of working in athletics for his career.

Albert Tang Northville High School David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship 2007/2008
Albert Tang, a graduate of Northville High School, was awarded with one of two David J. Hallisey Memorial Scholarships. Albert participated in the National Honor Society, Science Olympiad, Students Against Drunk driving, Adopt-A-Student program, Philospohy Club, Quiz Bowl team and the marching band. Albert’s accomplishments are noteworthy, as they include designations as National Merit Finalist and Presidential Scholar Candidate, along with numerous awards for achievements in Science Olympiad, Quiz Bowl, Michigan Mathematics Prize Competition. During his summers, he has volunteered at the Northville Public Library and with the Northville Parks and Recreation Department.
Rhonda Wang Ann Arbor Huron High School Frederick C Matthaei Scholarship 2007/2008
Rhonda Wang is one of two recipients of the 2007 Frederick C. Matthei Scholarship. Rhonda is a graduate from Ann Arbor Huron High School, where she graduated with highest honors. Not only did Rhonda excel in the classroom, but her passion for service was evident in her volunteer work with the Red Cross and as a team leader with the “FAST” program that provides CPR/First Aid volunteers to University of Michigan athletic events. Rhonda was also active in the Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club and co-captained her varsity Skating team. In addition, Rhonda participated in Mathematics competitions, as well as Business Professionals in America, which is a national co-curricular organization for students interested in business. Rhonda won top honors in six key competitive events from her freshman through senior years in Business Professionals in America.
