Jonathon Gold is this year’s recipient of one of two Frederick C. Matthaei Scholarships. Jonathon compiled an outstanding record of academic achievement at Troy Athens High School. Jonathon participated as a member the National Honor Society Executive Board, Physics Club Co-President, Federal Reserve Challenge – Core presenter and as Section Leader of the Marching Band. He was a National Merit Semi-Finalist, won 2nd Place in the U of M Physics Olympiad, and excelled in the Michigan math Competition. Jonathon embodies the attributes and qualities that we wish to acknowledge with the Matthaei Scholarship.
Hayley Goldenthal
Elaine and Roger Zatkoff Scholarship 2009/2010
Hayley Goldenthal is the recipient of the other Elaine and Roger Zatkoff Scholarship. Hayley attended Andover High school, where she graduated with high honors taking primarily AP classes. During high school, Hayley participated in the following: French Club, History Club, National Honor Society, Marching band, Concert Band, Symphony Band, Quiz Bowl and Junior Varisy Tennis and Softball. Rather incredibly, she already had two (2) design patents (one filed and one pending). Hayley won several awards and accolades, including the Harvard Book Award in 2008. Further, Hayley held a research position at the University of Michigan Biomedical Science research Building.

James A. Lee Rochester Adams High School James H. LoPrete Scholarship 2009/2010
James A. Lee is this year’s recipient of the James H. LoPrete Scholarship. James is a graduate of Rochester Adams High School, where he graduated at the top of his class. James is a National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist, an AP Scholar Award winner, compiled several accolades in the Michigan Math Competition, and achieved Student of the Year in AP Calculus in 2007, and Physics and AP Chemistry in 2008. As a well-rounded young man, James played on the golf team, played piano in several school, community and statewide events, participated in the Marching Band Drumline for three years and participated in his church. Indeed, James embodies the characteristics and attributes that our Club wishes to recognize.
Jennifer Liang
Harold duCharme Scholarship 2009/2010
Jennifer Liang is this year’s recipient of the Harold DuCharme Scholarship. Jennifer is a graduate of Troy High School where she graduated with high honors. Jeniffers accomplishments include the following: National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, AP Scholar with Distinction, National Honor Society, 1st Place at Frankenmuth Science Invitational (2008), 2nd Place in team event at Michigan Science Olympiad (2006) and several other awards. In addition, Jennifer co-authored an educational paper on Surface Plasmon Resonance at Oakland University soon to be published in the Journal of Chemical Education.
Dana Litz
Frederick C Matthaei Scholarship 2009/2010
Dana Litz is the recipient of the other Frederick C. Matthaei Scholarship. Dana graduated with high honors from Adlai E. Stevenson High School. During high school, Dana compiled a sterling academic record of achievement in primarily AP classes. In addition, Dana participated in the following: Key Club, National Honors Society, Varsity Cross Country, Varsity Track, Spanish Club, Yearbook (Editor), Concert Band, Marching band and Jazz Band. Notably, she also held a part-time job. Further, Dana was recipient of the Girl Scout Gold and Silver Awards.
Blythe Moreland
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship 2009/2010
Blythe Moreland is the other winner of the David J. Hallisey Scholarship. Bylthe graduated with high honors from Community High School in Ann Arbor. While in high school, Blythe participated in many extra-curricular activities, such as the School Improvement Team, the school newspaper (The Communicator), Peer Math tutoring and Forum Council. Blythe also compiled a number of awards and accolades, including the following: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – Paul and Kathleen Severino Future Leaders Award, Community High School Starfish Award (for school involvement), Michigan Interscholastic Press Association -3rd place Infographic, National Student Press Association Honor Roll, and American Mathematics Competition winner.
Katie Mullins
President's Scholarship 2009/2010
Katie Mullins is the recipient of the other President’s Scholarship award. Katie is a graduate of Lakeview High School, where she participated as Vice President of the National Honor Society. Katie also tutored middle school students and worked as a manager at Cold Cow Ice Cream. In addition, Katie’s scholastic record is nothing short of stellar, as she was inducted into the Math, Spanish and English Honor Societies, while taking AP Chemistry, History and Calculus.
Surya Nagaraja
David J. Hallissey Memorial Scholarship 2009/2010
Surya Nagaraja is one of the two David J. Hallisey Scholarship recipients. Surya graduated ranked first in his graduating class at Salem High School. During high school Surya achieved several accomplishments, such as National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist, USA Biology Olympiad (USABO) National Finalist (Top 20 in country), USA Mathematical Olympiad Qualifier (Top 500 in country), Michigan Math Prize Competition Bronze Medalist, various regional Science Olympiad Competition medals and numerous other math competition awards. Surya has also dedicated himself to community involvement volunteering at local food banks, elementary school fun fairs, the Special Olympics and other local area events.
Jessica Newman
Elaine and Roger Zatkoff Scholarship 2009/2010
Jessica Newman is this year’s recipient of one of the Club’s two Elaine and Roger Zatkoff Scholarships. Jessica is a graduate of Chippewa Valley High School where she earned a most impressive academic record. During high school, Jessica was an active member of the Be the Change Team, the Key Club, and served as National Honor Society President and Forensics Team Vice President. In addition, Jessica won student awards for math, science and overall academic excellence. She tutored other students and volunteered at Henry Ford Hospital and Clintonaire Nursing Home.
Mollie Pozolo
President's Scholarship 2009/2010
Mollie Pozolo received the President’s Scholarship. Mollie is a graduate of Rochester Hills High School, where she participated as an All-State Captain of the Varsity Cross Country Team. Mollie also served as Vice President of the National Honor Society. In the classroom, Mollie compiled an outstanding academic record. She was a National Merit Semifinalist, an AP Scholar, and Academic All-State. Her commitment to her community was equally noteworthy, as she coached a youth basketball team, volunteered at Vacation Bible School and Baldwin House in Pontiac.
